Named among CBC’s 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, this dynamic foursome is taking the classical music world by storm. Our High River audience heard the program to be performed at the quartet’s Carnegie Hall début.

“The Rolston String Quartet “rivals the best string quartets in the world.”

Musical Toronto

The Rolston Quartet were the first international ensemble to receive the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America in 2018. They took first prize at the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC), and grand prize at the 31st Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition and Astral’s National Auditions in 2016.

The quartet, which was formed in summer of 2013 during a Banff Centre music residency, take their name from Thomas Rolston, who founded the centre’s Music and Sounds Program.  In addition to completing national and international tours, they are associated artists at the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel, and served as quartet-in-residence for the Yale School of Music and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. As well, the Rolston String Quartet has taught at Yale School of Music, University of Toronto, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.

“First they played High River, then they played New York! The Rolston String Quartet performed with a maturity and cohesion rivaling the best string quartets in the world.”
