Hailed as “one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing” by Frankfurter Allgemeine and beloved for her exquisite playing, Fialkowska has enchanted audiences and critics around the world with her musical integrity and refreshing natural approach.
The great Arthur Rubinstein called Fialkowska a “born Chopin interpreter” following her prize-winning performance at his inaugural Master Piano Competition. Trained in Montreal, Paris and at New York’s Juilliard, Fialkowska has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada, received three honorary doctorates and won the Governor General’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music for her accomplishments. Fialkowska’s album Chopin Recital 3, released by ATMA Classique, received the 2018 JUNO award for Classical Album of the Year.
The lyrical program of Fialkowska’s Sounds & Perfumes matinée featured French themes along with her iconic performance of Chopin.

… Janina Fialkowska is a national treasure …”
The Toronto Star
“We have had many celebrated executants in London in this Chopin anniversary year … but none has taken my breath away quite like Fialkowska. If you have the chance to hear her, cancel all other appointments.”
The Evening Standard • United Kingdom
“Her playing is vibrant, daring, intellectually curious and continuously evolving … Listening to Fialkowska play Chopin is like watching an embrace between old friends … There is something very soulful and honest about her artistry; with everything coming from a place of integrity … Her musicianship transcends mere technical athleticism … She took some big, admirable, thrilling risks … The sound was always warm, generous and dazzlingly coloured.”

Janina’s advice for students of music
“Most [pianist] legends of the past were thoroughly cultivated people with interests in other forms of music, literature and other forms of art. …. I despair when I see that so many young pianists nowadays have, for example, no interest in reading. To play French piano music, for instance, without a knowledge of French literature seems impossible to me.”
